Your generosity helps ensure that the sacrifices of Kentucky’s Union soldiers will never fade from memory.
For more than 160 years, the memory of Kentucky’s Union soldiers and sailors has depended on those willing to preserve their stories. The Department of Kentucky, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), carries forward the legacy of the Grand Army of the Republic by honoring the men who fought to save the nation and by ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten. This work is meaningful, but it is also fragile — and it cannot continue without the support of people who believe in the importance of remembrance.
Across the Commonwealth, our members restore and replace Civil War headstones, clean and preserve historic cemeteries, and conduct graveside rededication ceremonies that bring dignity back to veterans who have been overlooked for generations. We help families discover their Union ancestors, assist communities in identifying the last Civil War soldier buried in each county, and provide educational outreach that keeps Kentucky’s Union heritage visible and accessible.
We also participate in public ceremonies and commemorations — Lincoln Days, Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances, ROTC/JROTC award presentations, Eagle Scout recognitions, and events honoring the Medal of Honor. These programs connect today’s citizens with the values of service, sacrifice, and national unity that defined the Union cause.
Your donation directly supports this mission. It helps us purchase cleaning supplies and preservation materials, replace worn or missing VA headstones, maintain historic sites, and provide educational resources to schools and communities. It strengthens our ability to honor veterans with dignity and accuracy. And it ensures that future generations will understand the cost of preserving the Union and the courage of those who defended it.
The Department of Kentucky, SUVCW, is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Every contribution — large or small — makes a real difference in our ability to protect Kentucky’s Civil War heritage and uphold the principles of Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty.
If you believe in honoring our veterans… If you value the preservation of history… If you want to help keep these stories alive…
We invite you to support our mission.
